Braves dealt another blow that might prove impossible to overcome

It seems like the past season and a half have been gut punch after gut punch as a Braves fan. Every time any sort of positive development emerges, it’s usually followed by a crushing one, and the latest example is Jurickson Profar‘s return being overshadowed by Spencer Schwellenbach‘s fractured elbow.

According to the club’s official Twitter account, the Braves are placing the young star on the 15-day injured list, along with a flurry of other roster moves.

We can’t even be excited about getting Alex Verdugo off the team and seeing the Braves’ only big ticket free agent signing without someone kicking our legs out from underneath us.

Put aside the fact that Schwellenbach being out for an extended period of time pretty much puts a pin in the Braves’ hopes of clinching an unlikely postseason berth. Consider the fact that Spencer Schwellenbach was one of the few players worth tuning in to watch this dreadful team.

According to Mark Bowman, he won’t pitch for four weeks, but the expectation is that he’ll throw again in September.

I’m not quite sure why the hell the Braves would even risk throwing Spencer Schwellenbach or Chris Sale again this season unless they were within a game or two of the Wild Card race.

This is beginning to look like a lost season. This time, unlike 2024, it’s due to underperforming stars, poor roster construction by Alex Anthopoulos, and once again, injuries.
