Another late rally helped the Braves to their fourth straight win last night at Truist Park.
Spencer Schwellenbach didn’t have his best stuff in his fifth start of the season. The Cardinals hit him hard all night, but he was still able to finish seven innings, allowing just three runs (two earned) on eight hits with five strikeouts and no walks. That’s how you know he’s pretty special. When he’s making just his 26th MLB start, and we’re calling seven innings of two-run ball “a little off.”
Schwellenbach would exit the game with the Cardinals leading 3-2. That’s when things got really interesting. A Matt Olson single with two men on tied the game. Ozzie Albies then walked to load the bases, and Michael Harris II gave the Braves the lead with a sac-fly, which was followed by the exclamation point — a three-run line drive home run over the wall in left field by Sean Murphy. A five-run eighth inning — the Braves’ second five-run eighth inning in four games — gave the good guys a four-run cushion, and they’d need every bit of it.
Raisel Iglesias came on to close the game in the ninth and had one of the worst outings of his Braves career. Back-to-back one-out doubles cut the lead to three, and two batters later, it would be a one-run lead after a home run off the bat of Willson Contreras. Brendan Donovan would then walk, bringing Nolan Arenado to the plate with a chance to put the Cardinals back on top with two outs in the ninth, only for the game to end in the most anti-climactic way possible.
BRUTAL ending for the Cardinals as Nolan Arenado’s check swing goes three feet but JUST far enough to enter fair territory allowing the Braves to record the final out and take the 7-6 win over St Louis pic.twitter.com/I5QqQkSeXk

Just how the Braves drew it up!
It wasn’t pretty — especially for Raisel Iglesias, who has struggled early this season — but a win is a win, and the Braves needed to keep this momentum going. That’s now four in a row for Atlanta, a reason to celebrate considering how this year has begun. Unfortunately, another injury to Spencer Strider is nabbing most of the headlines this morning.
Prior to the game, the Braves placed Strider on the 15-day IL after he injured his hamstring playing catch. It doesn’t sound too serious, but hamstrings can be tricky, and the Braves ace is undergoing an MRI to see how much time he’ll have to miss.
Snitker said he didn't know the results of Strider's MRI. They'll get a better feel for how much time he might miss over the next couple days

It’s been a never-ending cycle in Atlanta since the beginning of the 2024 season. Even the positive moments are overshadowed by injuries to key pieces. Spencer Strider took 376 days off between starts after suffering a UCL injury in April of last year, only for him to go right back on the IL after suffering an injury while playing catch. That shouldn’t even be possible, but it feels so normal right now in Atlanta.
We’ll keep you updated when the results of Spencer Strider’s MRI are revealed.
