Second baseman Ozzie Albies is in his ninth season for Atlanta Braves after making his MLB debut in 2017.

Albies has enjoyed an exceptional career in Atlanta, earning three All-Star selections, two Silver Slugger awards and leading the National League in hits in 2019.

In the Braves’ 2021 postseason run, he hit .254 with 16 hits, two RBIs and 12 runs scored over 16 games, helping to secure a World Series championship.

However, the young star has experienced a notable dip in offensive production: through 99 games in 2025, he’s hitting just .223 with a .627 OPS, nine home runs and 39 RBIs.

The Braves have struggled this season, hammered by injuries and underperformance to key pieces, sitting at 44–55 and 10.5 games out of a Wild Card spot.

With the trade deadline approaching, insider Ken Rosenthal revealed the team’s plans: “They're really open only to trading their players on expiring contracts.”

Although Albies’ name came up in trade rumors, he’s now set to finish 2025 in Atlanta—leaving his future to be decided in the offseason. His seven-year, $35 million contract signed in 2019 includes club options for 2026 (with a $4 million buyout, effectively a $3 million commitment) and for 2027 (no buyout).

If Atlanta decides his best years are behind him, they can either pay the 2026 buyout or decline the 2027 option, exiting with no further obligation.

Over 970 games for the Braves, Albies has accumulated 150 home runs, 547 RBIs and 1,025 hits.
