Following last night’s loss to the Mets, the Braves made a roster move, optioning Austin Cox to AAA Gwinnett and calling up Michael Petersen to take his place on the major-league roster.
The #Braves today recalled RHP Michael Petersen to Atlanta after optioning LHP Austin Cox to Triple-A Gwinnett following yesterday’s game.

This is nothing more than a depth move. The Braves are amid a stretch where they are playing 13 games in 13 days, all against divisional foes. Austin Cox pitched two innings yesterday, allowing one run on two hits while striking out three. Sending him back to Gwinnett gives the Braves a fresh arm for Thursday’s series finale if necessary.
But while that’s not all that interesting, what is interesting is the Braves keeping Didier Fuentes on the major-league roster. Fuentes really struggled yesterday, giving up six earned runs over just 3.1 innings. It was the type of outing that made you wonder if he’s quite ready for this moment at just 20-years-old with such little professional experience under his belt. Perhaps the Braves still decide to option him in favor of someone else in the coming days, but one would expect that would have already happened if they didn’t plan to start him again next week.
