The Atlanta Braves are adding outfielder Brewer Hicklen as their designated 27th man for Sunday’s Little League Classic against the Milwaukee Brewers at Historic Bowman Field in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
The move gives Atlanta additional outfield and pinch-running depth for the special showcase while keeping its regular roster intact. The Braves confirmed the transaction through their official X account.
At the same time, right-hander Reynaldo López is beginning a minor league rehabilitation assignment with Triple-A Gwinnett as he works his way back from left knee inflammation.

Hicklen is being recalled specifically for the showcase and provides manager Walt Weiss with another option off the bench. The 30-year-old can add defensive coverage and speed in a game where late-inning flexibility could be important.
For López, Sunday’s rehab outing represents a more significant step toward his return. He was placed on the 15-day injured list Aug. 2, retroactive to July 30, after dealing with acute left knee inflammation.
López has made 24 appearances this season, including 11 starts, while posting a 4-3 record, 3.64 ERA and 1.34 WHIP with 66 strikeouts across 71.2 innings. His return could provide Atlanta with another valuable arm for the stretch run.
The Braves enter the finale at 75-55 and atop the NL East, although they have dropped five of their last six games. Tyler Mahle is scheduled to start as Atlanta tries to avoid being swept after Milwaukee won the first two games of the series.
The Brewers enter at 81-49 and first in the NL Central after winning six of their last seven. López’s rehab progress could give Atlanta an important reinforcement as the club looks toward September and the postseason.
