Braves make several roster moves amid series with Nationals

A lot to unpack here, so let’s start with Blake Burkhalter. He had stellar numbers in Gwinnett — a 1.48 ERA over 24.1 innings. But The Show is a lot different, and he looked like a fish out of water last night. There’s no way the Braves can trust him down the stretch with the NL East hanging in the balance.

Elieser Hernández takes his place on the roster. He’s had some nice moments with the Braves earlier this season, boasting a 1.50 ERA over six innings, and he’s a guy who can give the club multiple innings in a pinch — which could prove necessary with Atlanta entering a brutal stretch of schedule.

Hayden Harris being designated for assignment is a bit disappointing. He put up absurd numbers in the minors last season, recording a 0.69 ERA over 43 appearances. That led to his major-league debut, where he looked competent, even if it was only a handful of appearances.

However, Harris’ 2026 campaign has been one to forget. He posted a 5.28 ERA in Gwinnett, which actually earned him a demotion to Double-A Columbus before he was ultimately designated for assignment. We’ll see what his future holds. It’s very possible he ends up back in the Braves organization.
