Braves make slew of roster moves following the end of the season

The Braves made a slew of roster moves on Wednesday, outrighting the contracts of Alexis Díaz, Dane Dunning, Sandy León, Luke Williams, and Jarred Kelenic.

As O’Brien notes, this gave every team the opportunity to claim these players off waivers, and they all went unclaimed. It says a lot about how the league views them, including the Braves.

Dane Dunning, Luke Williams, and Sandy León are AAAA players that will likely continue to bounce around the league and occasionally serve as the final man on the bench of some club’s 26-man roster.

The Braves acquired Alexis Díaz off waivers late in the season in hopes he might flash some of the stuff that made him an All-Star back in 2023. Instead, he posted a 10.13 ERA over three appearances with the club.

The most notable name on this list is Jarred Kelenic. The Braves acquired the former top prospect a couple of offseasons ago and believed they could tap into his potential once they got him into the building. That never even came close to coming to fruition. Kelenic accrued -0.2 WAR over 155 games, hitting just .222 with 17 homers and a .660 OPS.

Still just 26-years-old, Kelenic will undoubtedly get some more opportunities at the major-league level, but the experiment in Atlanta appears to be over.
