Braves Make Unfortunate Announcement, Place Star on Injured List

Things haven't quite gone the way that the Atlanta Braves would have hoped to start the new MLB season. The team has been slow out of the gates, and they have had a hard time finding any consistency on the field.

To make matters worse, the team has now placed one of its better players on the injured list. Atlanta announced that they have placed starting pitcher Spencer Strider on the injured list due to a hamstring strain. The team recalled right-handed pitcher Michael Peterson as well.

This is unfortunate news for the Braves, as Strider is one of the better pitchers for the team. The right-hander will be placed on the 15-day injured list, backdated to April 18.

For the season, Strider has pitched in one game, posting an ERA of 3.60. Strider pitched five innings against the Toronto Blue Jays, striking out five batters.

2023 was the best season in Strider's young career as the right-hander placed fourth in the National League Cy Young award voting. Strider posted an ERA of 3.86 while striking out 281 batters over 186.2 innings of work.

Strider has dealt with some injury concerns throughout his career, so this news is a little concerning for Atlanta. Just last season, the righty underwent surgery to repair his UCL, missing the majority of the year.

The Braves sit with a record of 8-13 for the season, currently sitting in last place within the NL East division. The team will need to find a way to stay afloat until Strider can return, which may be tougher than expected.
