Braves manager Brian Snitker gives injury update on Dylan Lee

The Braves haven’t had much luck in the injury department. Michael Harris II, Orlando Arcia, and Travis d’Arnaud have all missed significant time at some point this season. However, the most notable injuries have come to the pitching staff.

Max Fried and Kyle Wright have only made a handful of starts combined, and Kolby Allard recently joined them on the 60-day Injured List. The bullpen has also been decimated. Raisel Iglesias and Collin McHugh spent time on the IL earlier in the season. More recently, A.J. Minter, Jesse Chavez, and Nick Anderson have gone down, joining Dylan Lee on the sidelines.

It could be a while before we see any of those guys, but we did receive an update on Dylan Lee from Brian Snitker before today’s game against the Diamondbacks. The Braves skipper told members of the media that his recovery has been slow, but he hasn’t suffered any setbacks. It has just lingered longer than anticipated.

Lee has been sidelined for nearly two months because of inflammation in his left shoulder but hasn’t been cleared for game action yet. He still remains on track to come back sometime in August.

Hopefully, he can return to form because the relief core is the most obvious hole on the roster, and Lee was amid another fantastic campaign for the Braves, boasting a 3.10 ERA and 10.2 K/9 over 20.1 innings before the injury.

With the state of the bullpen, the Braves need these arms to start getting healthy. Even with Lee, Chavez, and Minter returning, the club should still add something to the group. Whether that be a couple of middle relievers or a high-leverage arm, the Braves’ relief core needs bolstering.
