A couple of weeks ago, I discussed perhaps the only positive thing to come out of the Braves 2025 campaign, which is undoubtedly the most disappointing season in franchise history. Atlanta has a real chance at landing the #1 overall pick, and their odds continue to get better with each passing week.
With the Braves going 3-7 over their last 10 games, and the Pirates and Athletics each going 7-3, Atlanta now has the second-best odds of any team at getting the #1 pick in the 2026 MLB Draft.
The moral of the story: If you’re going to suck, be so horrendous that you at least have a chance to land a generation talent in the following draft.
As sad as it is, this is a very positive development for the Atlanta Braves. The major-league team isn’t the organization’s only problem. The Braves farm system is also barren of talent. The #1 pick would go a long way in fixing that, and if Drake Baldwin goes on to win the NL Rookie of the Year award, the Braves would also receive a compensatory pick at the end of the first round. Next year’s MLB Draft could be a very exciting day for the club.
