Braves option surprising piece of their bullpen back to Gwinnett
Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

With the decision to activate Kyle Wright from the 6o-day IL to start tonight for the Braves against the Phillies in the second game of their doubleheader, a few roster moves had to be made. To clear space on the 40-man, rookie Daysbel Hernandez was moved from the 15-day IL to the 60-day IL. To make room on the active roster, Dylan Lee was optioned back to AAA Gwinnett.

Lee missed over three months with a shoulder injury before making his return at the beginning of the month, and he’s looked shaky in his four appearances since. Today, he allowed a two-run homer to Trea Turner which sparked a late rally by the Phillies, who eventually tied the game in the ninth on a two-out home run from Bryce Harper.

It’s very possible Dylan Lee is added back to the active roster in the coming days, but it’s also fair to wonder if the Braves believe he can return to form before the playoffs. He’s been so good for the team over the last two seasons, but shoulder injuries are no joke. They can linger forever, and even when guys return, they don’t look the same. That’s been the case for Lee so far, but there is still some time for him to figure it out before October.
