Braves reinstate All-Star reliever Robert Suarez from IL

The Atlanta Braves reinstated former All-Star closer Robert Suarez from the 60-day injured list on Wednesday.

The 35-year-old right-hander has not pitched in the majors since June 19 due to a right forearm strain and right elbow inflammation.

He tossed a scoreless inning on Sunday for Triple-A Gwinnett against Indianapolis, allowing one hit with one strikeout.

Suarez is 4-0 with four saves and a 0.56 ERA in 31 relief appearances this season, his first with Atlanta after signing a three-year, $45 million deal in December.

He was an All-Star the previous two seasons with the San Diego Padres and topped the National League with 40 saves last season.

For his career, Suarez is 26-13 with 81 saves, a 2.60 ERA and 245 strikeouts in 242 innings over 237 regular-season games (no starts) for the Padres (2022-25) and Braves.

The Braves optioned right-hander Owen Murphy, 22, to Gwinnett in a corresponding transaction. The 2022 first-round pick made his major league debut on July 6 and is 0-1 with a 6.00 ERA in five games (one start).
