Braves top prospect JR Ritchie continues to shine following promotion

There are very little positive developments going on right now with the major-league squad, but the Braves do have some prospects potentially on the cusp of making their MLB debuts.

Among them is 2022 first-round draft pick JR Ritchie. The 22-year-old right-hander recently received a promotion to AAA Gwinnett and has been lights out in his first two starts with the Stripers.

On Saturday night, Ritchie tossed 5.1 innings of one-run ball, allowing just three hits and one walk to go along with a couple of strikeouts. This comes after he threw six innings of three-run ball with six strikeouts in his first outing.

On the season, Ritchie now boasts an impressive 2.36 ERA with a 0.839 WHIP and 8.5 K/9 through 17 starts, including a 2.38 ERA for Gwinnett. With the injuries to the starting rotation continuing to pile up and the Braves falling well out of postseason contention, it’s becoming more and more likely we see JR Ritchie make his MLB debut at some point before the end of the season.
