Brent Honeywell Jr is Maximizing His Padres Stint Following Multiple Injury Battles

For the first time in a while, Brent Honeywell Jr. has been able to string together a nice stretch of healthy baseball and even though his role isn't what he expected it to be with the San Diego Padres, he is certainly contributing in a positive manner.

Honeywell has dealt with one of the more serious injury histories over the past couple of seasons as elbow issues/complications led to four surgeries over four seasons and made him completely reform his pitching style multiple times. All of this missed time in the MLB led to him signing a contract in the Dominican Republic where he was able to showcase that he was indeed healthy and ready for his comeback.

It was none other than the Padres who opted to give him that chance and after some solid outings in Peoria during Spring Training, he was added to their bullpen.

The Friars are no strangers to giving players second chances and helping to revitalize their careers. It's been great to see Honeywell, who has posted a 3.90 ERA in 24 games this season start to find his footing again.

Honeywell opened up about the hardest part of going down with injury and not being a starter anymore.

“You miss out on competing and playing and seeing what the league does,” Honeywell said. “That’s what you miss out on. Because then you step back into a league that moves on without you and it’s ahead of you.”

We hope to see Honeywell continue his success with the same franchise that gave him a shot after his numerous injuries and stint in a different country. He is happy with where he is at now and has the chance to help the Padres turn their season around.
