New York Mets infielder Brett Baty has had the full fringe big-league player experience just a few weeks into the season. The 25-year-old started the year at the top level before being optioned to the minors on April 24. The Mets (23-13) then called him back up to the majors on Monday.
Baty is slashing just .204/.246/.352 with one homer and four RBI in 19 games this season, but had a five-game hit streak in April and went yard in his most recent appearance on April 23. The 6-foot-3-inch, 210-pounder's two-run shot in the second inning was crucial toward New York's 4-3 win over the Philadelphia Phillies in 10 innings.
Baty spoke about getting called back up before the Mets' game against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday, via SNY.
"It's awesome, it's always nice to get the call to go back to the big leagues," the Texas native said. "I was excited."
Baty will be available off the bench against the Diamondbacks (18-17).

The Mets are starting Jeff McNeil at second base and Mark Vientos at third. Baty temporarily replaced McNeil while the latter player rehabbed an oblique injury earlier in the season.
Meanwhile, Vientos, who also designated hits in certain games, is slashing .220/.302/.374 with four homers and 15 RBI. Baty could replace either him or McNeil at some point on Tuesday, as he plays both positions.
New York is coming off a 5-4 win against Arizona on Monday largely thanks to a two-run homer by Pete Alonso and a three-run shot by Francisco Lindor.
