The New York Mets have several of baseball's best players, but they also have an unexpected hero. Infielder Brett Baty is having a career year, and he continued his good form in Monday's 7-5 win over the Los Angeles Angels.

The 25-year-old went 1-for-3 with a homer, two RBI, a walk, and two runs scored in the contest. His two-run homer to center in the bottom of the fourth inning brought the score to 4-2 in favor of Los Angeles.

Baty is now slashing .237/.295/.431 with 11 homers and 33 RBI over 79 games. The 6-foot-3-inch, 210-pounder's batting average, OPS, and homers are all career-highs.

New York manager Carlos Mendoza discussed Baty's growth after Monday's game, via SNY.

"[He's] a confident player that's getting results. He knows he's gonna be in the lineup, and he continues to help us win a baseball game...A lot of times, when you come from the minor leagues, it takes some time. It's like, 'Hey man, it's a team effort here...' If you get a guy over and make a play, you're 0-for-4, but you're still contributing."

"I feel like he's getting to a point now where he knows that every little thing he does, he knows it's meaningful...It's just good to see him continue to develop here."

The Mets selected Baty No. 12 overall in the 2019 MLB Draft. They called him up to the big leagues for the first time in August 2022, and he hit a homer in his first at-bat.

New York remains a half-game behind the Philadelphia Phillies atop the NL East after Monday's slate.
