The Milwaukee Brewers became the first team in MLB to cement their place in this year’s postseason on Saturday. The Brewers, however, view this as the first step toward capturing the organization’s first-ever World Series title. Entering Monday’s off day, Milwaukee currently owns a 91-59 record with a 5.5-game lead in the NL Central over the Chicago Cubs.

A huge reason for Milwaukee’s success has been their development, as much of the team is built on homegrown young stars such as Jackson Chourio and Sal Frelick. Frelick was the Brewers’ first-round draft pick in 2021 and debuted just two years later in 2023.

While his defense has always remained elite, he’s developed into a true threat in the lineup this year. Over 132 games, the 25-year-old outfielder has posted a .295 batting average, .359 on-base percentage, .764 OPS, 10 home runs and 57 RBIs—all career highs.

While Frelick has already captured a Gold Glove Award, Milwaukee’s homegrown star may be recognized by MLB for his contributions off the field.

During Milwaukee’s off day on Monday, the team announced that Frelick would be the Brewers’ nominee for the 2025 Roberto Clemente Award.

“Heck of a ballplayer. Even better person. Vote for @SalFrelick to win the Roberto Clemente Award, one of baseball's most prestigious honors for contributions on and off the field,” the Brewers wrote on X.

Frelick has emerged as a true fan favorite in year three of his big-league career. He was also nominated for the Heart and Hustle Award, which is given to an active player who shows a true passion for the game of baseball.

Frelick’s impact in Milwaukee goes far beyond the batter’s box. As a regular contributor to the Brewers’ Beyond the Diamond initiative, Frelick has made community service a central part of his identity since joining the club. Whether volunteering at local schools, hosting youth baseball clinics, visiting hospitals or supporting nonprofit organizations, his presence is felt across the city.

Frelick’s outreach includes work with the Hunger Task Force, Ronald McDonald House, Children’s Hospital and several veteran-focused groups. He’s also a passionate advocate for Best Buddies, a national organization that promotes inclusion for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities—a cause that resonates deeply with him.

His consistent involvement and genuine connection to the community earned him the nomination. Frelick’s off-field efforts reflect the same dedication and heart he brings to the game, making him one of Milwaukee’s most respected young leaders.
