Brewers Finally Get Long-Awaited Update On Injured Outfielders

The Brewers have been without two of their best defensive outfielders for most of the 2025 season. Blake Perkins has been out since early in spring training after fouling a pitch from Freddy Peralta off his own shin in live BP, fracturing his tibia.

Garrett Mitchell has been out since late April with an oblique strain suffered on a swing in a game against the Cardinals.

Perkins and Mitchell are the Brewers two best defensive centerfielders. In their absence, Jackson Chourio has played the lion's share of centerfield. Now, finally, the Brewers have an update on the recovery of their injured outfielders.

Garrett Mitchell, Blake Perkins begin rehab assignment

On Saturday, the Brewers announced that both Garrett Mitchell and Blake Perkins has begun rehab assignments with the ACL Brewers. Perkins has been in Arizona rehabbing this whole time while Mitchell traveled to Arizona recently to continue his rehab.

According to manager Pat Murphy, Mitchell is slightly ahead of Perkins and is tentatively scheduled to transfer his rehab to Triple-A Nashville on the 20th while Perkins is tentatively scheduled to go to Nashville on the 25th.

Position players get a 20 day window for their rehab assignments. When asked about if both players will need the full window after their long layoffs, Murphy said, "Perk(ins), I would think he would need that. Mitchell on the other hand, had a full spring training and played how(ever) many games for us."

"It's a five month stress fracture. I don't know if that's normal or not. It doesn't seem like it is" Murphy said on Perkins' injury.

The 20 day window would put a return at early July for both of these players. Mitchell could potentially return a little earlier at the end of June provided all goes well it sounds like.

Both Perkins and Mitchell went 0-for-2 in their first game with the ACL Brewers on Saturday.

Getting both of these players back could provide a significant boost to the Brewers lineup and after a long wait, they're finally back out on the field and close to coming back.
