Brewers first base coach sparks strange bench-clearing incident

Milwaukee Brewers first base coach Quintin Berry bizarrely sparked a bench-clearing incident during Sunday’s game against the Boston Red Sox.

The incident occurred midway through the seventh inning after Christian Yelich grounded out to first. After the play was made, Berry seemingly said something inflammatory to Red Sox pitcher Chris Martin, who had been covering the bag on the play. Martin reacted angrily, and the benches cleared.

No punches were thrown and the whole affair generally resulted in guys milling around, but Berry was clearly livid and had to be restrained by other members of the Brewers. In spite of this, he was not ejected.

Video from the NESN broadcast showed that Martin was none too happy either, though not nearly as upset as Berry was.

Berry, who generally garners attention for his flashy shoes, actually played for the 2013 World Series-winning Red Sox team, though he has no history with the current roster.
