The Milwaukee Brewers finished the regular season with the best record in the MLB last year. It was their fifth playoff appearance in the last eight years despite consistently maintaining one of the lowest payrolls across the league. However, the Brewers will want to add another piece to their lineup after trading Caleb Durbin to the Boston Red Sox last week.
Matt Carroll of Just Baseball believes a trade deal with the Houston Astros for third baseman Isaac Paredes would make sense for both parties heading into spring training. The Astros are reportedly looking to offload the All-Star slugger from their Opening Day payroll. Therefore, Paredes can be the power bat that the Brewers want, besides filling the hole in their infield.
“Over in Houston you have a team in the Astros who are on the other side of the spectrum with more than enough infield depth. One of those extra pieces is 26-year-old Isaac Paredes,” Carroll wrote in his article on Saturday.
Milwaukee is short on infield depth and Houston is willing to deal. Could the two sides end up connecting?

“So, the Astros have extra infielders and a potential need in the starting rotation. The Brewers need infielders, particularly at third base, and have strong starting depth. Sure sounds like a match made in heaven.”
Isaac Paredes arrived as part of the return package from the Chicago Cubs in the Kyle Tucker trade ahead of the 2025 season. He signed a one-year, $9.35 million contract with the Astros earlier this month, containing a $13.35 million option for 2027.
Although the Milwaukee Brewers appear as the favorites to secure a trade deal for Isaac Paredes, they face competition from the Pittsburgh Pirates. As per Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon of The Athletic, they are one of five teams , along with the Boston Red Sox, that are interested in the Mexican right-hander.

“Boston remains one of at least five teams engaged with the Astros about Paredes, according to multiple league sources. Another is the Pittsburgh Pirates, who need an upgrade at third base and tried unsuccessfully to sign free agent Eugenio Suárez before his agreement with the Cincinnati Reds,” they wrote.
Paredes delivered a solid season for the Astros last year despite a long spell on the IL, with 2.7 bWAR over 102 games. He ended the season on a .254/.352/.458 slash line with 20 home runs and a 123 OPS+.
