The Milwaukee Brewers hold the best record in the league along with a commanding 6.5-game lead over the second-place Chicago Cubs. With a postseason trip likely barring a major collapse, the Brewers’ main focus heading into October will be maintaining their position and getting healthy.

One of the main reasons for the team’s success in 2025 has been longtime face of the franchise Christian Yelich, now in his eighth season with Milwaukee after debuting with the Miami Marlins.

Yelich is no longer the player he was in 2018 when he captured National League MVP honors at age 26, but he remains a force in the middle of the Brewers’ lineup. Across 127 appearances, he’s posted a .271 batting average, .350 on-base percentage, .815 OPS, 26 home runs, and 90 RBIs.

Brewers Manage Christian Yelich’s Workload Ahead of October

The biggest concern at this stage of Yelich’s career is not his production, but his availability and health. That’s why the Brewers have transitioned him into a hybrid outfield/designated hitter role following his 2024 back surgery to repair a herniated disk.

Ahead of Thursday’s series finale against the Arizona Diamondbacks, manager Pat Murphy gave Yelich a rest day, removing him from the lineup and slotting catcher William Contreras into the DH role. The move also gives Contreras a partial day off, as he won’t be behind the plate.

Yelich’s presence and clubhouse leadership continue to be invaluable as he looks to help guide Milwaukee to its fourth division title in five seasons.

Over his 13-year career, Yelich has built a resume worthy of Hall of Fame consideration, with a peak that saw him as one of the most feared hitters in baseball:

  • 2× Batting Title
  • 1× MVP
  • 3× Silver Slugger
  • 3× All-Star
  • 1× Gold Glove
