The Milwaukee Brewers are about two weeks into Cactus League play now and we're just under three weeks away from Opening Day. The time has started for rounds of camp cuts as players who are in Major League camp are eliminated from the mix of making the active roster to start the year.

Typically the first round or two of camp cuts don't include many surprises and most are minor league prospects that are far away from the big leagues. There's also a number of veterans that haven't made any sort of mark in camp and were very much on the outside of the roster picture.

Milwaukee Brewers first camp cuts include Cooper Pratt

The Brewers announced that nine non-roster invitees have been reassigned to minor league camp in this round of cuts. Those nine players include #2 ranked prospect Cooper Pratt as the most notable name.

Cooper Pratt certainly made a positive impression in camp, hitting .357 (5 for 14) with three doubles and four RBIs. However, he's still just 20 years old and spent most of last year in Class-A. Pratt had essentially no chance to make the Opening Day roster and this move is just a formality as Pratt gets ready for the minor league season.

Luis Lara and Ernesto Martinez Jr are the two other notable Brewers prospects included in the camp cuts. Martinez has been playing well, hitting .333 with a home run and six RBIs. Lara hit .273 (3 for 11) with three RBIs. Lara is likely ticketed for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers again or Double-A Biloxi while Martinez is going to Triple-A Nashville to start the year.

Anthony Siegler is a former first round pick back in 2018 by the Yankees. He had a pair of doubles in five games this spring and figures to be middle infield depth in Triple-A.

A trio of lefties also got reassigned to minors camp. Tyler Jay was DFAed in the offseason and brought back on a minors deal, Thomas Pannone left a game with a forearm injury and now he's out of the roster mix but won't get a major league IL stint since he's on a minor league deal. Bruce Zimmermann has some MLB experience with Baltimore and is more starting depth down in Triple-A.

Just because these players were among the first cuts from camp does not mean we won't see them in Milwaukee throughout the season.
