Brewers Make Jacob Misiorowski Decision Amid Trevor Megill News

The Milwaukee Brewers have emerged as the team to beat in 2025, clinching a first-round bye and their third straight NL Central division title. The Brewers feature an incredibly well-rounded group, third in runs scored (5.0 per game) and second in team-wide ERA (3.61) entering Friday.

With the postseason approaching, however, the pitching staff has suffered major blows, as both Jose Quintana and long-time ace Brandon Woodruff have landed on the injured list. Milwaukee has also missed the services of their All-Star closing pitcher, Trevor Megill, who has not been available the entire month of September after suffering a right elbow flexor strain.

Megill had been anticipating a short stint on the injured list, but after experiencing numerous setbacks in his recovery following bullpen sessions, his return has been delayed. Fortunately, ahead of the Brewers’ series opener with the Cincinnati Reds, manager Pat Murphy shared some encouraging news.

Megill threw a live bullpen on Friday and, if he recovers well, the team is bracing for his return to come on the final day of the regular season (via MLB.com's Adam McCalvy).

This is an encouraging development for the Brewers, as aside from Megill, they do not have a dominant arm out of the bullpen that overwhelms opponents. Over 49 appearances this year, the 31-year-old flamethrower has collected 30 saves, 58 strikeouts (46 innings pitched) and a 2.54 ERA.

As the Brewers prepare for Megill’s return, Murphy also shared that rookie Jacob Misiorowski would be transitioning to the bullpen without a limit on his pitch count ( per Brewer Fanatic's Jack Stern).

With the Brewers likely heading into October relying more on the bullpen given the injuries to the rotation, Misiorowski being able to contribute in long relief and bridge the gap to Megill will be huge. The 23-year-old All-Star has seen his numbers decrease in the second half as major-league hitters have begun to figure him out. Over his last nine starts, Misiorowski has posted a 5.45 ERA and a 1–2 record. However, his arsenal has continued to be effective in striking out batters, and a move out of the starting rotation could see his velocity potentially increase as a reliever.

Fortunately for Milwaukee, the club has earned a few days off before the divisional round, but as the postseason progresses, Misiorowski logging multiple innings out of the bullpen could give every arm on the active roster much-needed rest.
