Brewers may need to make change with Kyle Harrison

Kyle Harrison had been a bright spot in the Milwaukee Brewers rotation. 

That has changed over his past two appearances. Harrison allowed 15 runs (13 earned) on 19 hits, including six home runs and six walks over 7.1 innings. He is currently slated to make his next scheduled start on Saturday, although Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that the Brewers will have long relievers ready in case Harrison struggles again.

If that proves to be the case, Harrison may not remain in the rotation beyond Saturday. Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that Brewers manager Pat Murphy said that they could adjust Harrison's role. Murphy indicated that Harrison could be used behind an opener, potentially have shorter outings or could be moved to the bullpen.

Fatigue may be a factor in Harrison's struggles. He is 14 innings from a career-high mark and has never made more than 25 starts during his professional career. Shorter starts or working in a bulk relief role could give Harrison the rest he needs to return to form.

Getting Harrison back on track will be vital for the Brewers. Although they are currently the top seed in the National League, the Dodgers and Braves are within striking distance of taking over that top spot. Harrison is also likely to be the Brewers' second starter during the postseason, following NL Cy Young Award favorite Jacob Misiorowski. If the Brewers are going to win their first World Series title, they will need Harrison to be the pitcher he was over the first five months of the season.
