While trade rumors surrounding Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Freddy Peralta are continuing to swirl, the other Peralta on the team, Sammy, is putting on an impressive display out of the pen in the Dominican Winter League.

Milwaukee Brewers’ reliever Sammy Peralta impressing in Dominican Winter League

Back in October, Matt Arnold claimed Sammy Peralta off waivers. He is not related to Freddy, whose brother Luis is also a professional baseball player, but Sammy does have big league experience and is hoping that Milwaukee’s reputation of helping pitchers reach the next level holds true for him as well.

Across 45.2 career big league innings, Peralta owns a 5.12 ERA. He has had stints with the Chicago White Sox and Los Angeles Angels from 2023-2025, but now the southpaw will be in an organization that is expected to be competing for a playoff spot in 2026.

Before even throwing a pitch for the Brewers, the 6’2″ sinker/slider reliever has looked impressive in the Dominican Winter League. Across 7.0 innings, he has given up just one earned run, a home run, struck out five, and walked just one batter.

Time will reveal what role Peralta ultimately plays on the team in 2026. With minor league options still available, he offers valuable roster flexibility, though in practical terms he’ll be competing for a spot in the bullpen.
