Brewers Pitcher Makes Trade Request After Recent Bullpen Decision

After a rough start to their 2025 season, the Milwaukee Brewers have fought their way back into contention in the NL Central division.

By mid-May, the Brewers were struggling to stay above .500, sitting at 25-28 after splitting a series with the below-average Pittsburgh Pirates

Since then, they've sparked an eight-game win streak that has since ended, but has put them back into contention for the division title and within striking distance of repeating as NL Central champions.

The Brewers are looking like they will continue their 2025 season without veteran pitcher Aaron Civale, after the 30-year-old requested a trade from Milwaukee.

Civale made the request after the Brewers moved him to the bullpen to make room for top prospect Jacob Misiorowski in the starting rotation.

"Civale was the odd man out in a rotation that includes Freddy Peralta, Chad Patrick, Quinn Priester and Jose Quintana – and other options at Triple A and on the injured list," baseball insiders Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon  said.

After Aaron Civale's agent, Jack Toffey spoke with the Brewers front office about the request, he said Milwaukee's exploring options to get the trade made, and it could include more than just Civale in the deal.

"I’ve heard from other teams, through their channels of communication, that they have a plethora of starting pitching and are looking for trade partners, maybe not just on Aaron, but maybe another pitcher," Toffey said.

If a deal is made on Civale, it will be his fourth team he will be pitching for since making his debut in 2019.

In 122 career starts, Civale has a 4.06 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and has struck out 596 batters in 658.1 innings pitched.

The only time the 30-year-old has thrown as a relief pitcher in the MLB was in the Brewers' 2024 Wild Card matchup against the New York Mets.
