Brewers post statistical oddity the franchise last achieved three decades ago

During the Milwaukee Brewers' 4-2 win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday, the team's pitching staff did a great job at keeping the Blue Jays' high-powered offense at bay. Starting pitcher Julio Teheran covered the first six innings followed by Joel Payamps, Peter Strzelecki, and Devin Williams to finish the game. Together, those four pitchers posted a stat line that has not been accomplished by the Brewers since 1992.

The above-mentioned quartet did not issue a single walk in the contest. They did not strike out a single batter, either. The last time a zero walk and zero strikeout game by a Milwaukee pitching staff occurred was July 11, 1992.

Leading the way this time around was Teheran. Over his six innings pitched, he allowed four hits, one run and obviously zero walks and strikeouts. The team's last starting pitcher (with a minimum of six innings pitched) to accomplish this was Scott Carl in 1999.

For their history, the Milwaukee Brewers franchise has seven total games in which the pitching staff has not walked a batter or recorded a strikeout. The list includes Wednesday’s game against Toronto, the aforementioned July, 11, 1992, game, four games in 1979 and one more such contest in 1977.

It’s quite incredible that it took 31 years for this rare stat line to happen again. The Blue Jays are a swing early/aggressive team, though, and it makes some sense that the statistical rarity came against them.
