Lara signed a 7yr/$31M extension with Milwaukee last month.
Milwaukee signed the 21-year-old outfielder from Venezuela to a seven-year, $31 million extension in June and he is already on the Brewers' 40-man roster.
Lara has been raking this year in Triple-A, slashing .321/.432/.470 with nine home runs, 42 RBI, 10 doubles, three triples and an impressive OPS of .902 in 78 games. Lara also swiped 24 stolen bases in 30 attempts this season for Nashville.
This news comes after Brewers manager Pat Murphy suggested that infielder David Hamilton may be headed for a stint on the injured list after leaving Monday night's 4-3 win against the St. Louis Cardinals with left hamstring tightness, paving the way for Lara to make his much-anticipated big-league debut.
With Lara reportedly joining the big-league roster, he will now enter the fold in an already exciting outfield group that includes Jackson Chourio, Sal Frelick and Garrett Mitchell. And while Lara is primarily a center fielder, he does have experience in all three outfield spots and could slide into the aforementioned Frelick's spot due to his recent struggles.
It's also possible that Frelick moves over to third base if Hamilton is going on the injured list. If not Frelick, Joey Ortiz is a prime candidate to play the hot corner given Milwaukee called up Lara, an outfielder.
After taking the series opener against St. Louis on Monday night, the Brewers will look to continue adding to their 6.5-game lead in the NL Central. The hope is that promoting Lara will provide another jolt to a Brewers team that has aspirations of a deep playoff run this year.
