The Milwaukee Brewers have been urged to make a blockbuster move before the trade deadline after FanSided insider Robert Murray suggested they pursue Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal. With Milwaukee leading the National League Central, Murray believes adding one of baseball's top starters could elevate the club into a legitimate World Series contender.

FanSided insider Robert Murray made the case during an appearance on Foul Territory, saying:

"Adding Tarik Skubal puts them in a position where they can not only compete with the Dodgers, but could legitimately beat them. If there was ever a time for the Brewers to make a splash at the trade deadline, it's now."

The Brewers entered July 2 with a 53-32 record after being swept by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2025 National League Championship Series. Murray believes adding Skubal would give Milwaukee a better chance of getting past the defending World Series champions in October.

Skubal, 29, is a two-time American League Cy Young Award winner and one of baseball's premier left-handed starters. Through 11 starts this season, he owns a 3.15 ERA with 75 strikeouts across 65 2/3 innings after returning from injury.

Drafted by Detroit in the ninth round of the 2018 MLB Draft, Skubal is playing on a one-year arbitration contract and is scheduled to become a free agent after the 2026 season. His combination of power, command and postseason upside would immediately strengthen Milwaukee's rotation.

The Brewers have received strong production from Brandon Woodruff and several young starters, but Skubal would give the club another frontline arm for October. His addition would also provide a proven answer against National League contenders led by Los Angeles.

There is no indication the Tigers are actively shopping Skubal or negotiating with Milwaukee. Murray's comments reflected his opinion on what the Brewers should do rather than reporting that trade talks are taking place.
