Brian Cashman Calls Jazz Chisholm Jr. A Stabled Mustang

New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman offered a unique update on Jazz Chisholm Jr.’s rehab from his oblique injury.

Speaking on the Sunday edition of SiriusXM’s Front Office show on the MLB Network Radio, Cashman said: “He’s like a mustang that’s being stabled, but who wants to break out.”

That seems like an apt comparison. Chisholm has been telling reporters he will be back sooner than expected and is trying to race against the rehab timeline. He told the New York Post that he doesn’t even want to go on a rehab assignment.

Cashman, however, emphasized the team’s careful approach.

“Rib cage injuries are tricky,” Cashman explained. “We’re going to take it slow with Jazz because we want to make sure we don’t rush him back and risk a setback.”

Chisholm, known for his athleticism and aggressive play, has shown flashes of promise this season before the injury. Through 28 games, he was batting .256 with 3 home runs, 15 RBIs, and an OPS of .735. His speed and defensive versatility have been important pieces for the Yankees when healthy, making his return a key factor in their lineup’s success moving forward.

While the timeline for Chisholm’s full return remains uncertain, Cashman’s comments suggest the Yankees are balancing the desire to get him back on the field with the need to protect his long-term health. For a player with Chisholm’s dynamic skill set, the goal is clear: bring him back fully charged and ready to contribute without risking further injury.
