PITTSBURGH — Bryan Reynolds is the longest tenured member of the Pittsburgh Pirates and his recent career milestone showed it.

Reynolds got the 1,000 hit of his career on a single in the top of the third inning vs. the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field on May 6, which ended up as a 1-0 win.

That hit put him amongst five Pirates players all-time that have at least 1,000 hits, 200 doubles and 140 home runs, which includes Hall of Famers in right fielder Roberto Clemente (1955-72), outfielder/first baseman Willie Stargell (1962-82) and right fielder Dave Parker (1973-83), plus outfielder Andrew McCutchen (2009-17, 2023-25).

It's great company for Reynolds to find himself in, even if he's not quite close to the achievements those four players had in their time with the Pirates.

Bryan Reynolds' Time With the Pirates

The Pirates traded for Reynolds back on Jan. 15, 2018 with the San Francisco Giants, sending McCutchen the other way.

Reynolds has more than lived up to the trade and has been the PIrates best outfielder since he made his debut back in 2019.

His 142 home runs rank ninth-most in Pirates history and he leads the franchise for most RBI by a switch hitter at 506.

Reynolds is in his eighth season with the team and is still looking to bring winning baseball back to Pittsburgh, as the team hasn't made the postseason since 2015 nor had a winning season since 2018.

It hasn't been Reynolds as to why that is, as he's a two-time All-Star, earning those nods in 2021 and 2024.

He has also played all over the outfield, starting out in left field for his first two seasons (2019-20), moving to center field the following two campaigns (2021-22), moving back to left field the following two seasons, (2023-24), playing in right field in 2025 and then back to left field in 2026, with Ryan O'Hearn playing in right field mostly.

Reynolds signed an eight-year, $106.75 million contract extension with the Pirates on April 25, 2023, which keeps him with the franchise through the end of the decade. It was also the largest contract in Pirates history and the most for an outfielder drafted out of college (Vanderbilt).

He had his contract eclipsed by Konnor Griffin's nine-year, $140 million extension back on April 8, but he is still one of the most important players on the roster and a veteran that has a big leadership role.

Reynolds now has a chance to finally see postseason baseball with the Pirates, who are 20-17, as he's in a strong lineup with the likes of center fielder Oneil Cruz, second baseman Brandon Lowe, O'Hearn and others.
