Bryce Harper's latest kicks are the 'Phillie-est' thing ever

Bryce Harper hasn’t hit a home run yet, but he knocked his fashion choices out of the park against the Red Sox on Friday night.

After arriving at Citizens Bank Park wearing his high school letterman jacket, Philadelphia’s other MVP showed up wearing the most ‘Philly’ pair of cleats ever made.

The Under Armour product is less a pair of shoes and more a walking collage of everything the city loves. Prominently featured, of course, are the Phillie Phanatic (Harper's BFF), along with logos and landmarks familiar to every Phillies fan.

Pictured on the right shoe are a traditional Philly cheesesteak, the Liberty Bell reimagined as a baseball, a Broad Street road sign, water ice, Love Park’s famous statue and the Phillie Phanatic’s ATV.

The left shoe repeats a few items while adding others, like a Philly soft-pretzel, current and retro Phillies logos, a boxing glove and the word ‘jawn’ thrown in for good measure.

Under Armour has worked with Harper since 2011. In 2016 the company signed him to the largest endorsement deal ever given to a Major League Baseball player. Since joining the Phillies, the player and company have collaborated on all kinds of interesting footwear.

Harper's ‘Home Run Derby’ shoes in 2018 featured the Declaration of Independence. His 2019 ‘Betsy Ross’ cleats were a thing of beauty and his ‘Opening Day’ spikes in 2021 were probably more stuffed animal than apparel.

Harper’s latest look won’t silence critics who have accused him of patronizing since he arrived in Philadelphia. Maybe they’re right. So what. Contrived or not, players with Harper’s talent rarely make such an effort to connect with a city. Keep the kicks coming, Harper. We can’t wait to see what's next.
