Cal Raleigh Sends Message After Disappointing Series Loss

Cal Raleigh did not have much to say after the Seattle Mariners dropped a frustrating series to the Athletics. The veteran catcher summed up the team’s situation bluntly after Saturday’s 6-2 loss, which gave Oakland a three-game sweep of Seattle.

“There’s not really much (left) to say,” Raleigh said. “It’s, put your best foot forward, play as hard as you can, try to win as many games you can.”

The loss appeared to reflect the frustration surrounding a Mariners team that has struggled to find consistency. Seattle hitters also did not make themselves available for postgame media, according to Seattle Times reporter Adam Jude.

Raleigh was one of the few bright spots Saturday, going 3-for-4 with a double. His performance stood out even more given his difficult 2026 season following a historic 2025 campaign.

Raleigh finished second in the American League MVP voting last season after hitting an MLB-leading 60 home runs. This year, however, he entered the weekend hitting .183 with a .297 on-base percentage, .377 slugging percentage, 21 home runs and 59 RBIs in 109 games.

An oblique strain that sidelined him for roughly a month earlier this season added another obstacle. Even with Raleigh producing Saturday, the Mariners could not generate enough offense to avoid another damaging loss.

Seattle eventually responded Sunday, beating the Athletics 2-0 behind a strong outing from Bryan Woo. But the series loss left the Mariners in a difficult position with their postseason hopes fading.
