Calls Mounting for Yankees to Extend 'Dominant' Veteran

The New York Yankees have been red hot over the past couple of weeks, winning  11 of their last 14.

A big part of this recent run of excellence has been the Yankees' bullpen, led by closer Luke Weaver.

Weaver has been called upon seven times over this 14-game span, and he's been perfect with zero earned runs allowed going back to May 5. Let's just say fans have been taking notice.

There's a growing voice on social media urging the Yankees to extend Weaver. Fireside Yankees and Empire Sports Media's Alex Wilson led that charge on May 22.

"Extend Luke Weaver," Wilson's quote from the Fireside Yankees podcast read. "He's earned it. This dude is the real deal in high-leverage spots."

In the accompanying post, Fireside Yankees also noted that "Luke Weaver has been DOMINANT since stepping into the Yankees' closer role, and it's continued in 2025 as he's allowed just ONE RUN this season (22.2 IP | 0.40 ERA | 23 K | 7 SV)."

"Should the Yankees EXTEND Weaver before he hits the open market this winter?" The account pondered, receiving 2.5K likes of approval from fans and counting.

Some even gave their opinion in the comments, including a Yankees supporter who said: "Best Yanks closer since Mo. $$$$."

"That's not the Yankee way but they should," another fan replied.

And a third chimed in: "Yes, be proactive."

Countless other Yankees fans agreed that Weaver should be extended under this post alone, but one final response asked: "Why is there even a discussion? What is the upside to playing the market on him?"

A fair question as Weaver's impeccable 2025 campaign continues.
