On Saturday, the Seattle Mariners will host the Oakland Athletics in the second to last game of the season at T-Mobile Park.

Oakland Athletics

The Oakland Athletics are wrapping up the regular season with their best win total since 2021, marking a nearly 20-game improvement from last year’s tough season.

Spirits are high as the Athletics conclude their final games at the Oakland Coliseum. They won two out of three games against the Texas Rangers. They currently trail 4-6 in the season series against the Mariners. Last night, they lost to the Mariners by 2-0 in an offensive struggle.

The Athletics have chosen Joey Estes to start his twenty-fourth game. Despite his 7-9 overall record, Estes has performed well at home with a 3.26 ERA and 4-3 record.

However, his performance on the road has not been as strong, with a 7.03 ERA and a .309 opponent batting average. The Mariners’ strong hitting makes it crucial for Estes to maintain control and avoid allowing runners on base.

Given the Mariners’ current form, a comeback on the road seems unlikely.

Seattle Mariners

For the second year in a row, the Seattle Mariners have failed to make the playoffs after falling short of the 90-win mark. They recently slipped out of Wild Card contention, trailing behind the Minnesota Twins.

Despite this, they did finish in second place in the competitive AL West, providing a foundation for improvement in the upcoming offseason.

Julio Rodriguez remains the team’s standout hitter, but the Mariners must bolster their roster through free agency and the draft. Their pitching has experienced a decline, prompting the need for bullpen reinforcements.

Emerson Hancock will take the mound for his fifteenth start of the season. The Mariners have won games despite Hancock allowing five runs in his last two outings.

He’s known for inducing ground balls rather than high strikeout numbers, and with a solid defense behind him, the Mariners should continue their recent winning streak.

Despite a thin pitching staff, the Mariners shut out the A’s in the series opener.

A’s-Mariners Best Bet

The Mariners have been eliminated from the playoffs and with that being said I still believe they will win this game. The A’s have overachieved this season.

They seem like they are ready for next season and the emotional roller coaster of leaving Oakland has taken its toll on them. However, I don’t think either side is the best bet in this one.

The total is what I’m targeting in this matchup. It opened at 7.5 runs and has been bet down to 7, and I don’t believe they get close. I’m projecting a 4-2 type game in this one. Under 7.5 runs is the best bet in this matchup.
