In the midst of a stretch where they are set to play 15 games in 14 days, the Cardinals are expected to turn to RHP Michael McGreevy for another spot start in the upcoming series against the Cubs.
If recalled, McGreevy will be making his fourth appearance and third start of the year with the big-league club. McGreevy's most recent appearance came in game two of a doubleheader against the White Sox this past Thursday, where he went five innings on 76 pitches and allowed only one run.
In 16 2/3 innings pitched with the Cardinals this year, McGreevy has a 2.70 ERA, 0.84 WHIP and 15 strikeouts. He's also 7-1 with a 2.51 ERA in Triple-A Memphis this season.
A spot start for McGreevy is expected to occur for Tuesday's contest against the Cubs, Katie Woo reports. This move allows for the rest of the rotation to remain on a six-day schedule.
McGreevy being recalled isn't the only pitching move the Cardinals are making prior to the Cubs series either. The team announced on Sunday that they are recalling RHP Gordon Graceffo.
Graceffo has had a solid year in Triple-A, posting a 3.77 ERA in 28 2/3 innings pitched. He's struggled at the major league level, though. In nine big-league appearances, Graceffo has a 7.47 ERA. His most recent appearance came against the Rangers, when he allowed four runs in one inning.
Andre Granillo was optioned to Triple-A as the corresponding move. Granillo has been effective in his brief time in St. Louis, but with him having pitched in four of the team's last five games, the Cardinals are in need of a fresh bullpen arm.
Entering Sunday's games, the Cubs have a 4.5 game lead over the Cardinals in the NL Central. This four-game series will be the first time the two teams have met in 2025.
First pitch for game one of the series is set for 6:45 p.m. CST at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.
