Paul Goldschmidt continued his hot streak Thursday going 3-for-4 with two home runs and 5 RBI and leading the St. Louis Cardinals to another series victory, this time over the Chicago Cubs.
St. Louis now leads the NL Central by six games.
But with his two homers, Goldschmidt came to within one of the NL lead, and is now at the top of the NL in batting average and RBI, making him a serious threat to win the Triple Crown this season.
The last player to win a Triple Crown was Miguel Cabrera in 2012, but you have to go all the way back to 1937 to find the last National League player to win the Triple Crown.
Interestingly, the man to do it was Cardinals legend Joe Medwick.
Goldschmidt homered, again. He's 3-for-4 with 5 RBI today. His second homer of the game went 428 feet. It's 8-2 STL.

Goldy Pushing For Triple Crown
Goldschmidt really has a legitimate shot at winning the Triple Crown this year.
All he needs is two home runs to pass Kyle Schwarber for the lead in the National League.
At the very least, he’s a strong contender for the National League MVP Award.
If he wins the Triple Crown, he’ll almost certainly be a lock for the MVP.
But Goldschmidt just isn’t showing any signs of slowing down.
He’s carrying the Cardinals and leading the way as they make a push towards October.
He’s been one of, if not the top player in all of baseball since the beginning of May.
He got off to a bad start in April, but quickly turned it around and is leading the Cardinals on yet another late season run.
Why pitchers are still pitching to Goldschmidt is a mystery, as he has been able to center almost everything they have thrown him this season.
