Cardinals Make Roster Move Before Dodgers Game

The St. Louis Cardinals made several roster moves before Tuesday’s game against the Los Angeles Dodgers, bringing three players to the major league roster as September began.

Outfielder Victor Scott II was recalled from Triple-A Memphis, while catcher Leo Bernal was also promoted. The Cardinals additionally selected right-hander Hancel Rincon’s contract from Memphis.

Catcher Jimmy Crooks was optioned to Triple-A as part of the corresponding roster moves.

The Cardinals announced the transactions through their official X account ahead of the Dodgers game.

Scott returns to St. Louis after appearing in 61 games with the club earlier this season. In 155 at-bats, the outfielder hit.194/.276/.258 with two home runs, nine RBIs and nine stolen bases.

Crooks, meanwhile, heads back to Memphis after playing 52 games for the Cardinals. The rookie catcher hit.179/.255/.336 with five home runs and 14 RBIs across 134 at-bats.

Bernal now gets his opportunity in St. Louis, while Rincon joins the pitching staff as the Cardinals make several changes entering the final month of the regular season.

The moves come as St. Louis continues its road trip against the Dodgers. The Cardinals entered Tuesday at 68-70, sitting third in the National League Central behind the Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago Cubs.

St. Louis also remains five games behind the final National League Wild Card spot, making the final stretch of the season increasingly important.

The Cardinals will now look to get contributions from their newly added players as they begin September with a difficult matchup against Los Angeles.
