Cardinals promote outfielder ahead of Dodgers series

The St. Louis Cardinals are promoting outfielder Victor Scott II to the MLB roster, the team announced Tuesday. In a corresponding move, catcher Jimmy Crooks has been optioned to Triple-A.

The Cardinals are hoping to finish the season strong. JJ Wetherholt was recently placed on the injured list which is obviously far from ideal, however. With the Cardinals battling multiple injury concerns, Scott is a player who could provide the team with a crucial boost.

Scott, 25, made his big league debut in 2024. He has appeared in a total of 252 MLB games with the Cardinals. While Scott’s numbers do not jump off the page, he is an impactful player overall.

In 61 games this season, the outfielder has hit .194/.276/.258 to go along with two home runs, four doubles and nine stolen bases. He stole 34 bases across 138 games played last year.

Scott can play any outfield position as well. His stolen base prowess and defensive impact will be important for the Cardinals moving forward. He could help the team down the stretch of the season.

Overall, St. Louis is 68-70. The Cardinals have upset expectations this season, but they are still on the outside looking in when it comes to the postseason picture. Regardless, their future is bright. The ball club features a number of talented young players.
