Cardinals second baseman Nolan Gorman is finding his groove at the perfect time

With both first baseman Paul Goldschmidt and third baseman Nolan Arenado struggling to show consistency at the plate, Gorman is providing the much-needed power boost to the Cardinals lineup. 

Selected with pick No. 19 in the first round of the 2018 MLB Draft out of Sandra Day O'Connor High School in Phoenix, Arizona, his power has always been his calling card. 

After smashing 25 home runs between Double-A and Triple-A in 2021, Gorman pummeled 16 home runs in 43 Triple-A games before earning his call to the majors, where he has been a mainstay when healthy. 

Drafted as a third baseman, Gorman has also developed into a solid defensive second baseman despite only picking up the position during the 2021 season.

With a back and hamstring strain he suffered in 2023 fully behind him, Gorman has shown all the makings of a superstar if he can continue to show this consistency at the plate. 

While he is receiving some help from outfielder Alec Burleson and shortstop Masyn Winn, the Cardinals will need him to continue to mash opposing pitching if they want a chance at the postseason in 2024.
