While the Chicago Cubs eye a postseason campaign in 2025, they have been monitoring the trade market with uncertainty about what their roster will look like after this season.

The contracts of multiple key players within the Cubs' roster will end after this season, leading to many insiders speculating that Chicago is set to make a big move before the trade deadline at the end of July.

Players like DH Seiya Susuki, RF Kyle Tucker, 2B Nico Hoerner, and SP Jameson Taillon are just a few of the Cubs' long list of players who are set to take on free agency at the end of the 2025 season.

It's obvious that the Cubs' front office isn't wanting to sign players long-term; therefore, reports believe that Chicago has been taking calls to acquire multiple pitchers from the Miami Marlins. One of those names is 2022 Cy Young Award winner Sandy Alcantara.

According to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal, "The Cubs, according to sources briefed on their plans, already are canvassing the market, making inquiries on Miami Marlins right-handers Sandy Alcantara and Edward Cabrera, among many others."

Alcantara has a contract that pays him $34 million over the next two years with a $21 million club option for a third year, while Edward Cabrera's contract is a financially smarter move as he's set to earn $1.95 million this season with three years of arbitration ahead of him.

It makes sense that the Cubs are making calls to possibly acquire more assets to further their depth.

With injuries in the starting rotation and several players set to hit free agency after this season, it's clear the Cubs are in a win-now mindset as they battle in a tight-knit NL Central division.

Chicago is expected to make a big move before the trade deadline, but for now, the Cubs are focused on extending their 2.5-game lead in the NL Central as they continue a divisional series against the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday and Thursday.
