Chicago Cubs Sign Jackson Tetreault to Minor League Deal

Once again, the Chicago Cubs are leaving no stones unturned with their latest signing . The team has now brought Jackson Tetreault into the organization. He joins Kyle McGowin as the second former National to have signed with the team in May.

It remains to be seen how Tetreault will fair, but the pitcher was impressive enough to draw recent interest. He was in discussions with the Toronto Blue Jays before ultimately joining the Cubs.

A fractured right scapula has derailed Tetreault's career since 2022. So much so that he spent the 2023 season for the High-A Wilmington Blue Rocks. The results were not favorable and a departure from the Nationals' organization came in November.

The Cubs have been signing reclamation projects left and right during the 2024 season. Not all of them will pan out most likely, but it will have paid off in one can make it to the big leagues and contribute.

If Tetreault is the one, it will be a nice redemption story given the injury that he has had to overcome. With the team struggling, the Cubs are looking for anyone to step up.

Tetreault will work his way up the Cubs system in hopes of making a return to MLB. With other teams showing interest, it is certainly a positive that players looking to find themselves see the Cubs as the team to help.

They have been able to provide a great environment for it. Reliever Mark Leiter Jr. is a shining example of the pitching infrastructure the team has.

While signings like Tetreault have little risk, it's long past the time for the Cubs to seek bigger upgrades to the organization. More emphasis should be placed on deadline acquisitions right now.

It is not to say that they can't "walk and chew bubblegum" at the same time. But from a fan's perspective, it is hard to get excited about these types of signings.
