The Chicago Cubs will play the Canadian National Team Wednesday at 3:05 p.m. ET in an exhibition game at the Cubs' spring training home, Sloan Park in Mesa, Arizona.
Team Canada has a roster full of Major League Baseball players, led by Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman. Team Canada will play another exhibition game Friday, when it travels to the Peoria Sports Complex in Peoria, Arizona, to play the Seattle Mariners.
Left-handed minor leaguer Mitch Bratt will start for Team Canada Wednesday. Bratt was selected in the fifth round of the 2021 MLB Draft by the Texas Rangers. Bratt recorded a 5-5 record and 2.45 ERA in 18 starts in A ball in 2022.
Justin Steele take the mound for the Cubs on Wednesday, making his second appearance of the spring. Steele put together an impressive 2022 campaign, logging 3.18 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 129 ERA+ in 24 starts and 119 innings pitched. He appears to be a lock to crack the Cubs' pitching rotation, with Marcus Stroman, Jameson Taillon and Drew Smyly. The Cubs' fifth spot is currently up for grabs, but Hayden Wesneski impressed in his first start Wednesday. Adrian Sampson and Javier Assad should also receive consideration for the role.
