The Chicago White Sox are reportedly down to three finalists for their vacant television play-by-play job that was left this offseason by Jason Benetti.
Benetti left to go and call Detroit Tigers games.
Per MassLIVE:
The Red Sox radio booth may look different in 2024 with a key figure reportedly in the running for a TV job in Chicago.
Will Flemming, who has called Red Sox games on WEEI since 2019, is one of three finalists to replace Jason Benetti as the White Sox play-by-play man on NBC Sports Chicago, according to Jeff Agrest of the Chicago Sun-Times. Chicago is also considering ESPN 1000′s Connor McKnight and John Schriffen of ESPN TV. The White Sox are searching for a new play-by-play announcer to pair with analyst Steve Stone in the wake of Benetti’s decision to leave the organization to call Tigers games on TV in November.
Flemming has been the subject of reported contract disputes with Audacy, who is the parent company of WEEI. There is still thought that he could return to the Red Sox radio booth.
McKight is the pre and postgame host for the White Sox Network on ESPN 1000 and has 10 years of experience in the Chicago marketplace.
As for Schiffren, from ESPN:
John Schriffen joined ESPN in August 2020 to call the platform’s coverage of the KBO (Korea Baseball Organization). He is now heard as a play-by-play voice across ESPN’s coverage of XFL, college football, basketball, softball and baseball, NBA G-league and Summer League and MLB. Schriffen also hosts ESPN’s presentation of the NBA Draft Combine.
With spring training beginning in about three weeks, you'd think the White Sox would want to wrap this up fairly soon.
