Cincinnati Reds prospect Sal Stewart has been named the Southern League Player of the Week. From May 20 to May 25, Stewart hit .400 with a 1.124 OPS. He had 10 hits, including a home run and three RBis during that time.
The 21-year-old is slashing 331/.392/.479 with 19 extra-base hits this season for Double-A Chattanooga.
Reds manager Terry Francona had high praise for Stewart in spring training.
He’s a very advanced hitter," Francona said. "I don’t know when it is but he’s going to be a good Major League hitter. I firmly believe that."
It wouldn't be surprising to see Stewart promoted to Triple-A Louisville soon.
