The Cincinnati Reds start a three-game series against the New York Yankees tonight. The Reds will do so with a new weapon on the mound tonight as they are calling up right-handed pitcher Chase Burns for his big league debut. To make room for Burns, they optioned right-handed pitcher Yosver Zulueta to Triple-A Louisville. The Reds also announced they are sending outfielder Austin Hays on a rehab assignment to Double-A Chattanooga.

Chase Burns

The Reds drafted Chase Burns second overall in last summer’s draft. He made his debut in the system this season, making 13 starts, going 7-3. Burns posts a 0.77 WHIP and 89 strikeouts in 66 innings. Chase Burns made just two starts at Triple-A, going 1-0 with a 2.19 ERA, a 0.89 WHIP, and 14 strikeouts in 12.1 innings.

Yosver Zulueta

Zulueta has made two appearances for the Reds this season, going 2.1 innings, giving up one run without a hit. He walked one and struck out one. In 22 games at Triple-A Louisville, he’s 1-1 with a 5.33 ERA, a 1.38 WHIP, and 29 strikeouts in 25.1 innings.

Austin Hays

Hays this season in 31 games for the Reds is hitting .303 with a .901 OPS. He has six doubles, three triples, six home runs, 25 RBI, 23 runs scored, two stolen bases, and eight walks. He hasn’t played since May 28th.
