Cleveland Guardians Sign Dominican Pitching Prospect To Deal
- A ball cap sports the Cleveland Guardians logo in the third inning of the MLB Inter-league game between the Cincinnati Reds and the Cleveland Guardians at Great American Ball Park in downtown Cincinnati on Tuesday, April 12, 2022.

The Cleveland Guardians have consistently put together a quality starting rotation. Their scouting department, paired with their coaching staff, has churned out quality starters over the past twenty years. However, this year has been a different story. While injuries to players like Shane Bieber have affected the rotation, Cleveland has had a tough time putting together a quality rotation. The franchise has dipped into the international pool, signing starting pitcher Juan Yan to a deal.

Cleveland Guardians Sign Dominican Juan Yan

Because of their history, teams take notice when the Cleveland Guardians sign an unknown player. Juan Yan is from the Dominican Republic and trains at the Global Baseball Academy. Insider Francys Romero reports the team is giving him a $45,000 signing bonus. Not much is known about Yan, and signing him is no guarantee we will see him in the majors anytime soon.

Franchises spend a lot of money to try to find the next great player. Baseball has become very popular in certain countries, and scouting departments spend lots of time at places like the Global Baseball Academy. We’ll have to watch for more information as it trickles out in the coming weeks and months. Once a player is signed, teams will undoubtedly try to figure out what they can expect from Yan.

Starting Pitching Struggles

The Cleveland Guardians are in the bottom half of the league in many pitching categories this season. Here are their current rankings in many prominent team stats.

  • ERA: 3.97 (16th)
  • WHIP: 1.38 (24th)
  • Opposing Batting Average: .253 (22nd)
  • BB/9: 3.74 (25th)

In baseball, one good week can cause a team to jump in the standings, but so far, the Guardians have been below their usual standard. They did show some signs of life this weekend. Detroit has been one of the best offenses this season, and the Guardians shut them down, taking three out of four in the series.

Final Thoughts

Will we see Juan Yan in a Guardians uniform soon? We’ll have to see, but it is always exciting when a new player is signed.
