The Cleveland Guardians head to Minneapolis to take on the Minnesota Twins in an AL Central matchup. Cleveland was swept over the weekend by the Cincinnati Reds, as the offense struggled to get anything going outside of Jose Ramirez. Minnesota saw its 13-game winning streak come to an end on Sunday, but still managed to take two out of three from the Milwaukee Brewers. These two teams had a four-game series a few weeks ago, with the Guardians taking three out of four. Only a half game separates these two in the standings. Can the Twins start another streak?

Cleveland Guardians

The Cleveland Guardians have struggled to find any offense outside of Jose Ramirez. In the past seven games, the all-star third baseman is slashing .364/.440/.818. The issue is that no one else in the lineup is getting on base. Only two other players are hitting over .300 in the past seven days. The rest are hitting .250 or below. Leadoff hitter Steven Kwan is only hitting .174 over the past week. His speed on the base paths creates scoring opportunities, but he isn’t getting on base.

Left-hander Logan Allen takes the mound in the series opener. In his last start against the Milwaukee Brewers, he threw a gem, going 6.0 innings and only giving up three hits. He has struggled more on the road this season. In five starts on the road, he has pitched a total of 26.1 innings, giving up 27 hits and 10 earned runs, while walking a whopping 14 batters.

Minnesota Twins

It has been a team effort by the Minnesota Twins over the past two weeks. You don’t win 13 games in a row on the back of one person. However, one player has stood out for the team. Second baseman Kody Clemons has been red hot over the past week. In the past seven games, he is slashing .400/.478/.750 with a double, two home runs, and six RBIs.

Right-hander Bailey Ober takes the mound for the Minnesota Twins. He pitched the opener in the previous series against the Guardians, winning the only game for the Twins that weekend. In that start, he pitched 7.2 innings, giving up eight hits, but only one earned run. In his last start against the Baltimore Orioles, he struggled with control, giving up three earned runs on only two hits in 4.2 innings of work.

Prediction

The Minnesota Twins are the hottest team in the league right now, and they are at home. Ober pitched well against this team back in April, and the Guardians are playing much worse since then. Allen’s struggles on the road give me confidence to take the plus-odds on the spread.
