The Houston Astros have been the best team in the American League and one of the best of all time during their stretch that has seen them go to seven-straight American League Championship Series.
They were eliminated by the Texas Rangers in the 2023 ALCS after having a lead and blowing the series against their rivals.
The Rangers ultimately went on to win their first World Series title in franchise history after spending tons of money to upgrade their roster.
Meanwhile, the Astros have been stagnant due to not wanting to go over the luxury tax threshold.
Rumors have been swirling that Texas will continue to be aggressive this offseason with their goal of winning multiple championships the next few years.
Now, Houston's division rivals are being linked to superstar closer Josh Hader by Joel Reuter of Bleacher Report.
"If they do still decide to make a splash in pursuit of defending their World Series crown, there is not a more obvious target than All-Star closer Josh Hader. The Rangers bullpen finished 24th in the majors with a 4.77 ERA while converting just 30 of 63 save opportunities during the regular season," he writes.
Having to face that Rangers team with the addition of Hader could spell trouble for the Astros in 2024.
Houston only won the division last year due to a tie-breaker over Texas, as they both finished with a regular season record of 90-72.
For much of the year, the Rangers were the better team than the Astros and almost won the AL West with ease, before a difficult stretch to their season caused them to shockingly stumble and open the door for another winner.
With Hader, that likely won't happen.
Still, Houston is poised to continue their dominance in the division and the American League overall, despite not making meaningful additions this offseason like other teams around the league.
