Colin Kaepernick’s Antics Deemed ‘Not Fair’ To Young Generation By New York Yankees Hero

Wells has been vocal about so-called woke companies taking stances on politics. He complained about Bud Light and Nike in a public conversation with several former Yankees players in September.

Wells was asked follow-up questions about those comments by Dakich. Wells said he thinks Nike is a hypocritical company because it promotes progressive politics while profiting from sweatshop labor in China.

Wells said the “woke atmosphere” from corporations has given athletes like Kaepernick a platform to protest against patriotic values:

“When [Colin] Kaepernick took the knee, it’s a little disrespect to me, because I’m a patriot. I support our military. I come from a military town in San Diego.

You can’t do things like that. Their beliefs, that’s fine. Your beliefs are your beliefs. I don’t have any problem with that. But don’t go out on national TV and take a knee for what that is. That doesn’t prove anything in my mind. It proves that you’re an idiot and that you’re standing up for a cause.

When the anthem’s there, you’re in America. You do the anthem. You do the Pledge of Allegiance. That’s what you do. That’s what we were taught in elementary school–put your hand over your heart and say the Pledge of Allegiance.”

Wells said those types of protests were unfair to younger generations watching sports because kids can uncritically accept a message from Kaepernick.

“To me, it’s not fair to younger generations cause they don’t understand those values and what it’s for. They just idolize that guy,” Wells said. “That’s alright, but don’t follow in his footsteps for the wrong reason. Get your own identity and do your due diligence.”

Wells said it was okay to have differing personal beliefs, but he didn’t specify how Kaepernick or other athletes should protest. He just said it shouldn’t be on national TV with a knee. Wells also conflated Kaepernick’s knee with the military and never mentioned police brutality, which is the actual reason behind Kaepernick’s protest.

It’s also important to note that Wells stated that people should “do the anthem” because that’s what they were taught in elementary school instead of doing due diligence first.
